Syracuse H.E.A.R.T. Banquet Saturday 10/19/2013

Post by Dave Tuttle on Sun Aug 04, 2013 10:52 am

We have Saturday's banquet plans finalized so we can now share them with you. The banquet will be in our hotel, the Maplewood at 6:30 pm. The buffet will be in a private dinning area/room where we will be able to hang out both before and after we eat. With a vegan dish included in the buffet we hope that everyone finds something they like. This year we need to handle payment for the banquet a little differently than in previous years. H.E.A.R.T. is pre paying the hotel for the buffet this year and we will need to collect from each of you prior to race weekend. We'll let you all know where to send your payment sometime in late September or early October. Here is what we settled on for the buffet:

Italian Roasted Chicken

Baked Penne with Marinara

vegan vegetable napoleon

Red Skin Mashed Potatoes

Glazed Baby Carrots

Fresh Garden Tossed Salad with Honey Balsamic

Fresh Baked Rolls and Butter

Iced Water with Lemon

Coffee, Tea, and Soda Service

$19.95 per Guest  Plus 20% Service Charge and 8% Sales Tax

Very good selection, a big "Thank You' to Tutt and Mike Nall for organizing everything again this year.  You both go out of your way to make the events fun and successful. Very Happy

Right. That looks like enough for me, but what are you all going to eat then?

Anyone,
In the past, Corning Gathering, there were activities scheduled for the Saturday before the Sunday run. Is the banquet the only thing that is planned for Saturday? My reason for inquiring is to determine my arrival time.
Hopefully someone can provide the information that I am requesting.
Thx,
kc

Hey Kevin, several of us are arriving Friday but so far there is nothing planned other than the banquet on Saturday. That could very well change soon though. I'll be off line for the next week but will follow up when I get back... anyone have any activity suggestions for Saturday other than the expo?

Will the leaves still be on the trees and will we get a chance to see some REAL Fall color?  How cold will it be?  I have the weather on my phone to check temps....We'll need to pack layers I'm sure.

October in Syracuse. It could be 80F or it could be snowing. Bring a lot of choices.

You'll be about a week past the peak colors.

SNOWING Surprised That is wrong! The hotel is reserved, I am registered for the half and the check has been sent to for the banquet. Since I am driving I can pack for any kind of weather.
See everyone there.

Yeah - lets hope it's not snowing - not yet anyway!!!! Good idea to pack for any kind of weather though....you never know!

As for fall colors – here’s a site that looks somewhat helpful
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/09/a_new_york_state_fall_foliage_report_with_your_photos.html

And this site is updated every Wednesday
http://fallgetaways.iloveny.com/LANDING_FOLIAGE_REPORT.html

Syracuse/Liverpool areas are in Onondaga County

I live about 3 hours West of Syracuse and at a much higher elevation but I am familiar with the weather and the Fall foliage in that area...

Worst case it could be in the 20's the morning of the race warming into the 50's by Noon, but I doubt it. A more likely scenario would be 30 to 40 in the morning warming to 60 plus by Noon. Bring clothes for all possibilities.

The fall foliage usually peaks the second week in October here where I live. Syracuse should be a little later due to a  slightly milder climate. The Maples may be a little past peak by then but the Oaks should be at peak so it will be VERY pretty.

For anyone driving in from the West, I would recommend Interstate 86 through New York's Southern Tier versus I 90 to the north. I 86 will take you through my region which is very rural and pretty. At Bath near Corning you will start a very scenic drive North through the Finger Lakes region following Keuka lake and then up Seneca Lake to I 90 which cuts through the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the upper end of the lakes. The I 86/Finger Lakes route is only about a half an hour longer than staying on I 90 the whole way but is well worth the extra time.

Thanks for the tip - we'll be driving in by that route.....and picking you up if you're still there hauling more tons of firewood around!!!! Very Happy

I will be sorry to miss meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones. I hope you all have a great weekend and a good run! I am planning to be at the Cincinnati Mini, so I am hoping to see some of you there in March.

Be safe!
