Team Walski

Post by twal on Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:07 pm

I can now check one thing off my bucket list. I ran the Anthracite triathlon relay (Jim Thorpe, Pa) with my daughter, Kristi, swimming, and my son, Adam, biking. I was the anchor on the run, (that is if by anchor, you mean a big object that slows things down).

The race was billed as one of the hilliest triathlons around and the participants will agree. There was pretty much no flat land on the 10K which was run mostly on trails. The bike was worse.

Kristi was 40th out of the water (out of 113), Adam was 5th on the bike and then dad did a 10K in 53:25 (58th) to cost us an award. We were 6th out of 13 relays and 21st out of 113 overall. But the awards didn’t matter this day. Doing a triathlon with my kids was worth more than any award.

How fun to be able to do this with your family!!!! I'm sure your kids are super proud to have a dad like you who can do this with them (mine wouldn't be able to.... even when he was younger) -- GREAT job!

Nice. Congratulations to all of you. That's a dream I have that will never happen. The best I can do is run in the same race with my daughter. Son doesn't do any of this stuff, he keeps in shape in other ways.

I can only imagine the feeling of knowing you have run the race with your kids. Your passing along the right stuff to the kids. Thanks for sharing the story with us.
A 53:25 10k on a flat course is impressive and even more impressive when it is run on a hilly course!
