Kingman Desert Dash

Post by kodi30 on Fri Jul 19, 2013 7:35 pm

Just registered for this one. It's a four miler...strange distance. I've been told it's half on pavement and half on a trail. Date is Aug 10. I love these small local (if you call 60 miles local) races. Early registration is only $25.00. Not so great age-groupings, I'm in the 60 and over age group and I'm way past 60, 65, and 70. Smile

Kingman is a little higher elevation (3500 ft) from where I live and it's usually about 10 degrees cooler so probably about 75-80 at the 7:00AM start.

Marc....It's usually a dry heat but we're in our monsoon season now. I did 10 miles this morning starting at 5:15 and was soaked when I finished. Temps were 85 when I started with a 61% humidity. Not nice. Smile

4 Miles isn't such an odd distance. At least it's an even number. Last year I ran a couple that were 2.75 and 2.95. Of course, they were supposed to be 5K but subsequent re-measurement proved otherwise. Our club has one event where they made a mistake 40 years ago with 2.9 and 5.8 milers which were supposed to be 3 and 6, but rather than fix it, they repeated the same route for 40 years. One of my favorites each fall is a 7.1 mile race, very hilly with a 3/4 mile cross country finish. It could easily be converted to a 10K but then they would lose that cross country part, so they keep the odd distance.
