Heart Chase – raising awareness of Heart Issues

Post by Rachel August on Wed Jun 12, 2013 4:56 pm

For the past couple months I’ve been working on the committee to bring the first annual Heart Chase event to Holland Michigan which is coming up on June 22.

Heart Chase is a fun fund raising event for the American Heart Association – check out our FaceBook page (which is public)

My story is on there – scroll down closer to the bottom of the page to read my story and to see a picture of me 2 days after my surgery!

Watch for these events in your area – I’ll give you a report on how ours goes.

Thanks for sharing the story on FB.  That would be scary not knowing you had a problem.  I hope your event is a huge success, it seems to be growing daily.  Good luck.

Thanks for asking!

We had our first annual Heart Chase event here in Holland on June 22 and it was a pretty good showing for our first one!

We had 15 teams who registered, raised money and participated in a lot of fun activities to support AHA as well as 20 local company sponsors. My team didn’t do so well (I think we got hung up at the local frozen yogurt place – it was one of the stops where you guessed how many calories were in yogurt and various toppings….we all bought some of our own yogurt to eat….I don’t think that was part of the challenge – but I’m all about supporting our local business) LOL

A couple days before this event I got the chance to be on one of the local Grand Rapids radio talk shows live to talk about my story and promote raising awareness of heart issues which was thrilling for me!

In addition, I spoke after our event about my story and at the end asked for a moment of silence for those who have been taken by heart disease and for those of us still living with our diseases and heart conditions. It was a very emotional moment; a lot of people spoke to me afterwards and told me how much they appreciated this event.

I’m not sure of our final numbers, I’m on the committee and we’re meeting next week to discuss the results and what we can do to improve on our event for next year.
