Same here. I'm feeling like the nerd who gets turned down asking a cheerleader to the prom.

VERY sorry to hear this guys!

I've never tried or applied for this so I'm not sure what the procedures are, but I think I've heard of others who kept trying and finally got in.

I think you should keep on trying too.

That is really too bad for both of you.....Kevin and Jack.

I did try to recommend awhile back, but could not find where to do that on the site. Every other year I have done recommendations, and had no problem with finding the link.
Not that my rave review of you both would have made any difference, but still would have liked to give my 2 thumbs up for you.

DON"T GIVE UP!!!! YOU ARE OUR HERO'S!!!

I've talked to several Global Heroes about who they used for recommendations and found absolutely no pattern, other than discovering they will accept more than 3 recommendations but only use what they feel are the best 3 during the committee selection process. Next year, and I urge you to try again, contact me for my opinions and I'll also gladly give a recommendation. I had thought they only took the first 3 and so didn't offer my own, but I now know differently.

Thanks everyone!

Sent an email reply to Medtronics asking for more clarification on their selection process. Told them I have applied 3 times and rejected. Thought the addition of a second mechanical device would help. No. Don't understand how they choose! Sorry but my avatar on this site is of me crossing the finish line at the twin cities marathon in 2008. A year after my AVR and qualifying for Boston! That doesn't show the benefit of their medical technology and return to an active lifestyle? They turned me down that year as well.

I know everyone that they chose are worthy but it's just hard to keep being turned down.

I was rejected too and none of us like it, regardless of the reason. It was my first try. The best thing is my daughter and ex-running partner both submitted recommedations said I'm still their Global Hero and that's even more important. The other good side is I don't have to train for a marathon in the AZ summer heat.

Here is the email response from Global Heroes. I guess I'll have to have someone else write my essay responses. I have a hard time writing a sensational story. Just thought facts would be enough.

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for your continued interest in Global Heroes. You have an inspiring story and we thank you for sharing it with us. The selection committee reviewed more than 260 applications, all with great stories. It is a very challenging assignment for them! They factor many things into the selection including: variety of devices, geographies, age and race preference. In addition to finding a good mix of those factors, they also rely heavily upon your answers to the two essay questions, when making their decision. They do not factor in how many times you have applied before.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks,

Global Heroes program

THanks for sharing that Kevin. I'm not good at long prose; for me it's short and to the point. I guess I'll have to have someone in my family write the next one.

I give them credit for answering your query regarding the selection process.

Personally, I think since the field to choose from is so extensive, then they should increase the picks.
It might cost them a little more, but would sure be great for them to show a larger amount benefiting from their devices.

I would still try again next year, even if you don't like to fluff up the resume.
