Fontana Half 2013

Post by kodi30 on Sun Jun 02, 2013 10:49 pm

Another year of this race is over. After I peaked on this course too many years ago, every year gets slower & slower. It’s an all downhill course, however, the last five are slight but still going down. I have two times to report on this one; the official time and my run time. Why the difference? Right before mile six I started having some stomach issues and stopped at mile six to take care of them. Unfortunately I had to wait outside the green pottie dancing around until someone else finished. After taking care of business, I had to fight with an unopened roll of TP. After my longer than hoped visit I continued on without stopping. I guess I shouldn’t really complain about the stop in the hundreds of races I’ve run over the last 34 years this is probably only the fourth or fifth time I have ever had to stop. I think that’s pretty good odds. I felt like I ran comfortably the whole way but did work hard at maintaining pace. My official time was 2:57:01, my actual run time was 2:51:49. I hoped for about 2:45 but training has been less than spectacular and temps at the start were about 63 and it was 85 when I finished. My daughter also ran. Her time was 1:47:57, not too bad considering she ran a 4:05 marathon last Sunday. Crazy kid.

Sorry to hear of your unplanned pit stop Mel. Otherwise it sounds like a great day running a favorite race with your daughter... How many times have you run this one?

Not sure Dave but probably 12-15. The only races I've ever kept track of were the marathons. I do have them all logged in my log books which are somewhere stored in my garage.

Kodi,

I think that's so cool that that you and your daughter ran in the same event! You're my dad's age and I can't imagine him walking a half!!!

I have yet to do a half post-surgery!

Great job on your part!!!!

Rachel, it's always fun do to the same events. We've done several since she started running about 7 years ago. What's even better is when either or both of her boys do them too. Her youngest is a distance speedster.

Congratulations!!!!

The older we get the more we need to be grateful for being able to go the distance...regardless of times.
In your case, however, I think your time was awesome---even with the long pit stop!

Well done!!!
