Mile Series

Post by twal on Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:48 pm

I got the first place award for the Valley one mile series in the 60-69 age group. This was based on the total time for three one mile races. You would think this would be good but there are some gotchas.

First, I was the only guy to do all three races so it was a cake walk.

Second, my time for a flat mile was 11:31. It seems I blew out my hamstring last Tuesday and could only manage a shuffle through this last race. Even after 9 days, the back of my leg is still black and blue. I don't think blood thinners help any.

Third, the 60-69 women winner had a faster total time than mine.

Fourth, I've been focusing on running a leg on a team relay triathlon in two weeks and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do it. I'm not even sure I'll be ready for Shephardstown in October the way I feel now.

So it was a disastrous first place.

I'm doing all the right things for my hamstring--ice, compression, stretching, rest (but not enough), muscle run and heat. My leg is just not recovering. Any suggestions?

Takes time to heal. Rest, ice and time.
No shame in first. You beat everyone that didn't show!
