Watermelon Classic 5K

Post by twal on Sun Jul 05, 2015 8:24 pm

I had business in New Orleans and visited my daughter's family in Mississippi. We all ran the Watermelon 5K in Jackson, Miss on 4 July.

I finished 152 out of 685 and 4th out of 14 in the 60-64 age group. But because our age group winner won some kind of senior master's division, I got the third place medal. My 26:01 was ok for a rolling course in humid Mississippi heat.

Our family did will with my daughter winning the overall women's race (28th overall) and my grandkids getting medals in the kids one mile.

One of the coolest things was that Olympic gold medal winner and world record holder Calvin Smith from Bolton, Miss was the starter and helped with the award. It was cool talking with him afterwards. If I can figure out how to post a picture, I'll put it up here.

Great race.....for both of you!

That is cool that the love of running is being passed down thru the generations.
You should be proud!
