Syracuse Update

Post by Admin on Fri May 10, 2013 4:06 pm

Several of you have been asking about the arrangements for H.E.A.R.T.'s October gathering, the Empire State Marathon and Relay in Syracuse. http://empirestatemarathon.com/

We've been working with the local hotels and are close to a commitment. We should be able to announce our hotel choice, rates, and booking information within two weeks so look for an e mail or check the forum for the latest News.

Once we finalize the hotel and meal arrangements we'll start forming the relay teams but if you're running the half or full marathon you can register at any time.
Whomever is organizing the relay teams, Rachel, my Dave, and I need one more person.....looks like we each run 6 to 7 miles. Cool
I'll be doing the relay, but all I'll do is slow you down. I'm so slow, I was once passed by an elm tree, and last week running near the river a snapping turtle came up through the grass. It worried me because if he started chasing, I couldn't outrun him. I've come in DFL so many times, they now hand me a calendar at the start.

Here's our plan so far:

We'll ask everyone who is running with us in Syracuse (all events) to respond to a special e mail in mid June. We'll also ask for volunteers to be team Captains at that time.

Once the teams are filled, the Captains will register their team and pay the fee of $180.00

Team members will then reimburse their Captain however the Captain wants to handle it.

There is a price increase July 15th so we'll try to have all our teams registered by then. We should be able to form additional teams later as the need arises too.

We think we'll be well ahead of any caps if we have most everyone registered by July 15th.

Jack - you crack me up!!!!! IMO - It's not about speed - you'd be super fun to have on a relay team!

I'm really looking forward to NY and seeing everyone again!!! Also so happy that Louise and Dave are coming up from TX - it's going to be fun running with everyone!!!

I'm in for the event this year. I'm going to register for the 1/2. I usually do a full in October but I find it very hard for this old body to train through the summer heat with long runs.

Is anyone planning on running the full? If so what is the forecasted finish time?

I thought about it. Are you going to run the full? What would you forecast for your time? I might second think it.

Mel, I'm looking forward to seeing you again and I'm sure the gang from the early years are too. Mark, Tom, and Paul are "in" and I hope several more from the first Akron race will also jump in soon.

Hey Kevin, I'm glad you're running again this year. At this point you're the only one running the full marathon but Mel sounds interested. I might even run it if my running goes well this Summer but my 5 hour time is way slower than yours.

So far we have 1 relay team filled, 7 running the half marathon, you for the full marathon, plus 3 injured who hope to be able to run... And I'm pretty sure we'll see more signing up as we get closer to race weekend too.

I am targeting the full. Running it solo does not really excite me. A 5 hour marry sounds good to me. If I am the only full crazy then I will probably join the half crazies.

I'd be ecstatic if I could run close to a 5 hour anymore. I'd be looking at closer to 5:45 if the training went well. Think I'll stick with the 1/2.

Post by Dave Tuttle on Thu Jul 04, 2013 8:30 pm

Kevin, I'm looking at this race as a social run and more about running with friends than anything else so I'm thinking I don't want to make this an all out effort... How about running the half? With 8 of us running it we should all be able to find someone from our group who is running near our own pace. I honestly don't think I would be much company in a full marathon anyway. I really need to stick to my own pace to survive and once I hit 18 or 20 miles it gets pretty ugly... I sure wouldn't want to be around me then Evil or Very Mad

If I am able to properly train for a full marathon this summer I can still run Corning or Harrisburg and use Syracuse as a training run.

We are still holding onto our hotel room just in case we join you all as the "Cheering Section". I edited my 'other' post.

Really sorry you're not running with us, but it would be so very cool if you came anyway - would love to see you!!!!

I was also sorry to hear you and Dave were dealing with injuries and needed to pull out. I wish you both well and hope you're back running soon... You've become such a part of these gatherings that the weekend won't be the same without you. It would be great if you can make it even if you're not running.

I had hoped to be on a relay team...I've signed up for a full mary the prior w/e....so even a half so soon after is a bit daunting...and yes I could captain if need be (and its looking like that's what it's gonna be)....any guidance from the admin guru's? Just start a team and hope to fill it?

Marc, I added you to our roster... At the moment we don't have enough for a second team but Mike and I both plan to be available to fill out teams if necessary so even if we don't get any more runners interested in a relay team the 3 of us could still form another team. We'll keep you posted.

Does anyone else want to be on a team?

Everyone,
It sounds as if there are no takers for the fully. That will work for me since my training is not what it needs to be. Who has signed up for the half?

Not sure about everyone, but Tom P, Mark S, Dave T, me and I think a few others. I'm the old slow guy otherwise I'd be doing the full. Smile

I changed you to the half on the roster Kevin. There are quite a few running it. Here is the current line up. http://heartorg.forumotion.com/t86-syracuse-roster#623
