Fueling before, during & after a marathon

Cleveland Clinic webchat this Friday.

I dare two people to ask them if Pop Tarts are recommended pre-race food.  You know who you are.

There are so many varieties; pop tarts could be considered their own food group. I'm confident the ones with imitation fruit filling would be recommended, but let's see what the experts have to say.

Pop Tarts may not be the most orthodox race fuel there ever was but years ago I did have a 2,000 pound Hereford bull that I named Pop Tart due to his love of them and lets just say he was a real powerhouse... And yes I ate Pop Tarts before every marathon I ran...

No need to ask the Clinic if they work What a Face

They just caught the last of those two escaped killers who were on the run here in New York State and what do you suppose they found in his backpack?? Yep, Pop Tarts... High energy and very portable!

It was kinda a one sided race Bill... The cop shot him as he was running away.

Probably saved some innocent citizens lives by doing it too cheers

Just another embarrassing episode to relate

Post by Gary E on Sun Jul 12, 2015 12:57 am

Okay, I'll fess up about eating some unusual fare prior to a road race. I used to eat a whole sleeve of those little chocolate covered donuts before a race.

Same goes for post race. I even won a spaghetti eating contest after a 10k. They asked for volunteers, and knowing it was free, I jumped at the opportunity.  There was no sauce, just noodles, and when the gun went off I dove right in. I kept my face in the huge silver mixing bowl the entire time (probably two or three minutes) and all I remember was how sore my jaw was getting. When the bell rang for everyone to stop, I looked up for the first time. They started weighing each bowl, and when they got to mine they just glanced at the remaining three or four contestant's bowls and didn't even bother to go any further.  It wasn't even close!!! I won by a landslide.
