Sweet 16 Valversary

Post by HerbW on Sun Mar 29, 2015 1:43 pm

Hey there, its been a long strange trip it has.  16 years ago I woke up in post-op/ICU after having my old damaged mitral valve removed and replaced with a shiny new St Judes valve.  Looking forward to many many more valversaries.

Have fun
Herb

There will be burgers and refreshments later today.  Stop on by.

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!

Save one of those burgers for me....and a little bit of whatever is in the bottle. Smile

Although, looking at the picture, I may not show up till June. Cool

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with well wishes.    As stated earlier its been a long strange trip and this valversary was the strangest yet.  To start off i usually don't get sick.  The last time I was sick with a fever was a about 12 years ago, on a road trip no less.  Anyway it was my turn again so I Spent this entire last week off work…. not so much  by choice as I had what appeared to be he flu with a sinus infection .  So 4 or 5 days running a fever up to 103.  I usually don't need an excuse to lounge around for days but this was a case where I had medical advice to do so.  Well WebMD, I didn't see the Doc until yesterday when I was feeling better.  My experience has been the  doc usually tells me what I know already, writes out a prescription for $$$$worth of pills and it takes me a fw more days to get better anyway.  Well I planned to skip all that and just get better on my own.  I almost made it.  Was feeling good yesterday and Vic was slowly getting better too so we were going to walk the dog.  I felt OK, but while getting jackets and glove and hat on, not to mention leashing up the mutt i was having trouble getting my left hand to work (spoiler alert - no I wasn't having a stroke).  Anyway after arguing with my left hand to get it to work zippers, and the leash clasp we were out the door.  Where I was immediately  bombarded with issues of concern from Vic.   She said I should take you to the doctor, which is what i have been avoiding for 8 days.  Anyway my hands were not the only issue as my legs and feet decided to agree with Vic.  We get across the driveway and my feet pointed me right at the retaining  wall and for dramatic effect, they just quit working.  Yep gravity took over right about then.  I was Close enough to catch myself on the wall breaking a fall that would have put me face down on the blacktop…. but i was far enough away from the wall that the collapse of my legs propelled me forward with just enough momentum to test the theory that for even action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  I kinda bounced back as I settle to one knee. So no more arguing, I pulled myself up, I wobbled into the car seat, she drove me to the clinic and luckily one of the orderlies saw us  coming as my imitation of Foster Brooks must have been spot on as a wheelchair was  brought outside to roll me in..   So I was dehydrated over 2 litres, they did plenty of tests, a cat scan, a couple hundred questions to make sure knew who i was, what happened, when i happened, how it happened, why year it was.  I think  said 2015 about 2015 times.  So in the end I am fine, ordered to drink lots and lots of fluids and I did get a few scrapes on my forehead and the start of a nice shiner. So how did your day go yesterday??

Scary. Glad you're still on your feet. Or at least on your recliner.
