The bugs were just a curious seasonal feature. There were only a few of them still flying around (the ones late for the massive bug orgy that took place a short while ago).

Both feet off the ground? It kinda looks that way. I'm not sure if that's an optical illusion or a very rare phenom caught on camera.

Gary, LP was six years ago - I can't believe the time has gone by so quickly. My last IM was in Wisconsin 2011, my last tri of any sort was a local one in 2012. I have to admit I have been thinking (foolish?) thoughts of another run at Lake Placid. As you well know, I don't get through one of those very easily or quickly -- not sure if I've got one more in me or not.

Dave, nothing picked out yet, and maybe it's just an idle threat.

Welcome back to the triathlon fold. I find triathlon a little addicting lately. Overall it's easier on the joints. Did 3 since Memorial weekend but think I'm going back to running for the rest of the summer. My wife gets nervous over open water swims. I will NEVER even consider Ironman.

I saw those critters so heavy in Vermilion Ohio about 12 years ago they got out the snow plows to shovel them off the street. They can get slippery.

That's fantastic Bill!! I admire your guts taking on another IM. I remember your training for the last one and it was mind numbing (as is the whole concept of an endurance event that long)... But what a great way to get into top shape.

Just got back from an excellent trip to the Adirondacks.  Watching/working the IM was a minor detour from some excellent cycling, hiking and paddling.  There may be better places to do any of those, but perhaps not a better place to do all of them.

Looks like you both had a great time Bill. The Adirondacks are one my my favorite places too. Where were the photos taken? Several look very familiar.

Hi Tom - we drove around the north side of the lake, so I think the closest we got was Kingston, ON. I will take your comment as a standing invitation, though, in case the drive-by ever gets closer.

Called his bluff -- he and Liz showed us an absolutely wonderful time!  We even got to visit with our heart patient friend Richard while we were there.  Many thanks, Tom and Liz.

We stopped in on the way home from a fabulous trip to VT, ME, NH where we hiked and biked for several days.

Sounds like a great trip.

If any of you are passing through Northeast Pennsylvania, feel free to drop by for a visit, a bike ride or a run.

Re: Bill's Journal

What a great first summer as a retired guy. I enjoyed several great bike trips in ME, NH, PA, NY, MI, OH, VT, made it to Shepherdstown for the annual event, ate my veggies and lost 10 lbs. I am still periodically awakened by bad dreams about work - but I just LOL and go back to sleep. About a month ago I started base training for next summer's Ironman. I have been riding more than the plan calls for, but that will end soon as the weather turns to #$%#!. It feels good to have sights on a big event again. I am a bit concerned about my aging body (it was a challenge just to finish an IM in prior years), but this time I won't be encumbered by gainful employment, so I should be able to rest more when I need it and spread out my training more evenly. If I can keep the weight off this winter, I'll have the added benefit of a lighter load on the hilly bike course. Bring on the dreadmill and the bike trainer!

Bill, it took me about 18 months to stop those dreams about work!!!  Also, I have been injured a bit more post retirement....I think because I have ramped up too fast, and done too much thanks to the free time I have!  Just be careful......

Glad you're liking retirement Bill, you sure are getting in plenty of good play time! Diane is really happy she retired too and now we have lots more freedom for new adventures... It's like endless summer vacation!
