St George Hospital 5km Sydney

Post by haggis basher on Tue Oct 14, 2014 8:31 pm

Last sunday, I ran a 5km beach run for the above. It was my first run since 9-10 weeks off with pneumonia! The weather was stinking hot 26degrees with no wind! The course was on a cycle track with approx 600m sand. I ran very conservative for the first few km's, but got caught up in the excitement. I ended up walking 3 times in the last 1km! Still ended up in 28min 08 secs. I finished 49th out off 149 runners (2nd in over 60s - although I am 74)
When I got home, I got stuck into my SPIRULINA tabs-to recharge my body.Seem to run with a crowd ok - but training on my own...
See Yaas
Brian

So glad to hear that you're back at it Brian!!!! I met a guy from Holland last w/e during the run I did up North who is also 74 - he told me how frustrating it is to have the 60 and over category..... inspired me to talk to my running group here because that has gotta change!!!!

You did so well on this one especially for walking some of it!!!

Nice job Brian...nothing like a welcome back after a 9-10 week break with some less than ideal conditions.

Nice come back Brian!!

Very impressive for anyone recovering from pneumonia... I hope I can be as fit as you are when I reach 74!

See that you have arrived in USA-enjoy your stay. Are you still running, as we don't hear too much about it! Ran another 5km last Sunday, ran very steady in 30min. Got our local 4km/8km run this Sunday, going to do the 4km.
I didn't realise you were 65 age, not too far behind me. (LOL).
See ya
Brian

Hi Brian, yes, well established in the US. Temporary apartment in Arlington VA, until tenants move out in two weeks of our apartment in Washington DC. We're going through the usual settling in stuff - getting bank accounts and credit cards, we just bought a car (memo to self - get driver's license).

One thing worked well. On the day I left Australia, I drove my Holden (=Chev) pickup from Canberra to Sydney, to an auto auction place. They liked it and made a cash offer. I accepted it, took payment, caught a taxi to the airport and got on the plane for the 14 hour flight to LAX.

I've not run very much at all the last year, and have put on weight. A pity, as I was pretty much running at my best two years ago. But now that I'm signed up with the Heart Team for Harrisburg, I'm getting regular - but I'll be slow.

As for the 65 years - that's just a book entry, it has no significance! Although I have a senior's subway card here ...

Cheers,

Craig
