In other news

Post by Sumorunner on Sun Sep 14, 2014 7:19 pm

I've not had such a good year, race times have been pretty sluggish. But I recently boosted weekly mileage and it's slowly coming back. I ran a 6 miler this morning and decided to run a suicide plan. I went out hard and ran the first 3 miles at 5K pace, actually only 8 seconds slower than a 5K 2 weeks ago. then had to hang on for 3 more miles. First 3 miles in 33, second 3 in 36 mins., which sounds horrible but OK according to the plan.

On another note, I've been getting some good press recently for my artwork. Two separate mentions in the local newspaper this month. One for 2nd place in an outdoor art show. Another where they posted a photo of the panorama I did next to my oil painting (you need to scroll down). In the print version, they were stacked one over the other and it looked fairly impressive. My art teacher, I'm not certain if she was serious or not, asked which one was the photo.

An athlete and an artist. You're multi-talented.

Nice race Jack! You took a risk and it paid off... How many races is it for you this year?

Nice paintings too!

This was the 23rd time I ran that race. I tend to go back to the same ones over and over. I'm at 14 races so far this year, probably will get to 20. A few times I've run over 30, average may be 12-13. The vast majority are short, track races to 5ks. If you run short ones, recovery time is short, so you can run one just about every week.

The old train station where I was painting was built in 1840. The RR ran between Troy & Schenectady which were bustling metropolises then. The line was shut down in 1961, made into a bike path in 1975 and that bldg sat unused until May of this year.

Well done Jack on both of your accomplishments. Tried drawing classes a few times, but the 'artist' wouldn't poke his nose out! Have you heard of a book by Betty Edwards called: 'Drawing on the right side of the Brain'.- I am just reading it!
See Ya
Brian
