Blueberries, Guns, and an Early Birthday Run

Post by Rachel August on Fri Aug 01, 2014 11:19 am

Went for an eight miler this morning - part of the route passing by some blueberry fields near my house when I hear gun shots……I’ve heard these before and they’re fired by the blueberry employees to scare off the birds – but it scared me instead (flashbacks to a few New Year’s Eve celebrations I spent in questionable Detroit neighborhoods)

Anyway – it’s humid out (for me a least) so I like to keep things slow on days like this…..not for that 4th mile I didn’t – 8:45 and I wasn’t taking any chances about those guns popping off blanks!

My birthday is tomorrow and I’d like to see 49!

The rest of my run this morning was on the faster side for the conditions…..maybe there should be loud gunfire shooting blanks at Harrisburg…..

OK, I'll bring a gun to Harrisburg and randomly fire shots at you whenever you go over 9:00 per mile. Cool

My daily route goes past the town police firing range and the Mohawk valley marshes are a major bird hunting area, so if I don't hear gun shots I might think something's wrong.

See? That's just great teamwork right there.....provided that your aim is NOT directed at me that is.....

Happy Birthday, Rach!!!

Anytime you want to get used to the sound of gunfire, you are more than welcome to visit us in "the 'hood" where such noise is quite common (and followed shortly after by police or EMS sirens).

With running, you want to turn 50 so you can get into the next age group. It's easier to get an award.

Uh - not worth it to me......with my speeds I'll be waiting for that award 'til I'm 80......so I'm sticking with the 49 story for a while!
