First run not thinking of heart consequences!

Post by haggis basher on Sun May 18, 2014 8:55 pm

Hi All
Ran my club 3km X-country last saturday in very hot conditions. Started off faster than normal, and found myself well up in the field. With about 400m to go, a runner I was just about to pass - fell! (no I didn't trip him  Twisted Evil ) I stopped to pick him up, then 'tore to the finish. I was surprised at my time... 14 min 50secs (PB)
Beats seem ok when running, but when I stop - bad arrhythmia for 5-10 min.
Must try to get some quicker running in - not good forcing ones mind to overcome fatigue!
See Ya
Brian

Congratulations on the PB!!  cheers

Hopefully you took the time to cool down after the run with just an easy jog for awhile. Very important, especially in that type of heat.
The heart rate needs to come down slowly or it gets all screwy, like you experienced.

Now that you in the top....train, train, train!!

Good job!

Thanks for all kind replys. Talking about 'falling' in races: In 1960, I ran in a 'massive' x-country run in Brussels (Belgium). We lined-up across an airfield, where 800m away was a 50m wide gap, where 8000runners had to squeeze through! Most of us wore spikes...I heard many screams, where people fell and the throng just went over the top of them! Don't know about the 'good old days'!)
See Ya

Very surprised today...Ran my first track race for 2014 (5/22/14) It was a 5km. For half the race I was struggling -  seemed to be sitting too much on my bum! I realised that my arms were too low. (more long distance style) I lifted them a few inches...voila! A 'new' runner...Finished in 25min 50sec.  sunny
One negative about run: When I was told last lap, I felt so full of running  that I sprinted passed a couple of runners, but when I got to the 100m from home a terrible pain shot into my chest - I was forced to jog to finish.
Hope I didn't tear stitches for new valve! Will find out today - club 2km x-country.
See Ya
Brian
