RiverBank 5K/10K Combo RESULTS

Post by Rachel August on Sat May 10, 2014 12:40 pm

Hey! I’ve finally made it in some form/fashion to the GR RiverBank! I didn’t do the 25K because honestly that event is two miles too far - LOL – plus I’m gearing up for my next half in June and I thought that running 9 miles today would be a good idea…..so why not do it with 4,000 other people?????

The day was perfect – in the 50’s and no rain – the course was also CROWDED 4,229 showed up for the 5K and 4,432 for the 10K…..after living waaaay out in the country I thought that was a lot of people for such short races – it was hard to get around others!!!

The 25K will see over 6,000 runners….there were a ton of people downtown!

I did pretty well….not as good as I’ve done running alone – still with the crowded course I’ll take it – this time I did put forth some effort without “racing” as I have an echo on Monday (really not looking forward to it because basically - I’m afraid of the results)

But I had fun today and that’s all that matters…..I kept telling myself that if my doctor ever tells me to stop running…..at least I had today (and some other days in the recent past that were pretty special)

So here are my results:

5K – 28.18 (nowhere near a PR for me – just a nice run)
10K – 57.15 (unofficial – but I’m sure very close also not a PR for me)

Oh…..try as I did to convince my husband that I thought that DRINKING the FREE BEER at 7:30am this morning was BETTER for him than going to his favorite $$$$ restaurant (and spending $30.00 on bacon) – this is what actually happened

While I was doing this......

Nate was doing this……

LOL, love the meat pic!  Personally, I like sausage better than bacon!  Love your pics Rachel, you had a great run! Don't worry about your echo, the way your running is going you are fit and your heart is STRONG!

Nice race Rachel! Sounds like you had fun and what a great way to get in a long run.

I'm with you, beer at 7:30am is much safer than bacon drunken

Good luck Monday (but you won't need it)!

Beer.. I can live without.
But, I would have been with Nate eating bacon.  Smile

Thanks everyone it was a pretty fun event and this is coming from someone who dislikes crowds!

I can't really say that I like my husband's eating habits (I did banish him from cooking meat in the house 12 years ago....so I'm mean. This was after he cooked AND ate a pound of bacon in one sitting) but he does what he does anyway and he'd rather grill so no skin off his nose.

Also thanks for the well wishes for me on Monday - won't know the results until the 22nd when I actually see the doctor --- A part of me is not worried but a bigger part of me knows better than to be complacent about my health.....especially my heart.
