Cheering Section for Brian - Heading to Boston

Post by Guest on Sun Apr 13, 2014 7:26 pm

Brian is in tapering week for Boston next Monday.  Let's all give him the proper send off and cheering section.

Brian,
Good luck at Boston!  Wish I could be on the sideline cheering you on!

Thanks so much Louise. I am happy to report that my back is back to baseline and should not be a factor in the race. I am a bit undertrained due to weather, but no injuries currently. The current weather forecast is good, but as you know, that will change many times between now and race day. My bib number is 13492, starting in wave #2 at 10:25 and hoping to finish in 3:30 (1:55 pm)

Go Brian!!!   cheers

No injuries and a back that's behaving is a good place to be.

I'll be thinking of you on race day and hopefully watching on TV... Looking forward to reading your race report!

Best wishes, Brian. I've seen more pre-race coverage for the race than ever before...I wonder why?

Will this be your first visit to the quaint little village of Hopkinton? It is really amazing how many runners they can assemble in all the side-streets for the various corrals. Be prepared for the crowding and the long wait for the starting pistol, and don't let that downhill grade right after the start send too much adrenaline into your system. You'll feel your next chill when you hear the coeds from Wellsley from a mile away...and then there are a few notorious uphills before you make a final short climb and the left turn onto the most famous finishing stretch in all of roadracing.  I get teary-eyed just thinking about it. Have a blast!!!

From your previous posted runs it would seem your target time is well within reach....course congestion may be the biggest hurdle there.

Speed on BAV brutha speed on.

Hey Everybody:

We are about to get in the plane and I'm not sure how much contact I will have with the group. If anyone is interested in following progress during the race, I am pretty sure they put up split times for each 5k on the www.baa.org web site that are live. There is also a way to get e-mail or text updates that you sign up for on the web site, but those are usually much less reliable compared to the results page.

Anyway, my goal is to run just under 8 minute miles and finish under 3:30. So each 5k split should be about 24:30-24:50. If all is going well, the splits after 5k and before 20k may be slightly fast because of the downhill running.  If the 20 -25k split is slow, then I decided to spend more time with the coeds in Wellesley. The hills start at 25k and heartbreak hill is in the 30-35K split, so look for things to slow down there (hopefully not too much).  Let's see how things work out!!!

oops. Almost forgot. My bib number is 13492, I am in wave #2 and will be starting at 10:30ish.

Have fun Brian - it will be an awesome day!  Very Happy  Unfortunately they scheduled my left eye for cataract surgery Monday morning so I won't get to watch it live online this year - but I did sign up for updates to follow you and a few others I know who will be running!

Good luck Brian! Hope you get your sub 3:30, here's hoping we can get together on the same start line one of these days. I'll even let you keep it to a short race of 26.2 miles if you like.  Smile Smile

Let's see how he does on the Newton hills.....those seem to tell the tale of how you finish...I remember well crashing on those hills and walking so much I almost gave up!  :-)

Thanks guys. Today went terrific on the course. I did slow a bit on the hills from 25k to 35k and just could not get back in stride. But, I did keep running and finished running pretty strong...for the end of a marathon. Thanks to a new age group next year this one qualifies me for next year.  Very Happy  Thanks for all of your support. I did wear my HEART shirt! I will post an official race report soon as I do thing that I learned some things that may be of use.
