I recall seeing that pic at CA. That is a very dramatic indicator of what a sedentary lifestyle does to you (and that's only part of the story). I think our modern society has fallen into the mindset that "health" = moderate BMI and normal ranges within a few standard parameters like blood glucose levels, BP & lipid profile. The thought seems to be that we can lay around all day, and if those values are normal-ish, whether through luck or meds, then we are OK. I have been doing some recreational reading on the topic of epigenetics, and the effects of physical activity and food choices (i.e., real food vs. crap) on human physiology. Fascinating stuff, IMO. This article is almost 10 years old, but I think it's a really good explanation of some of the profound effects of exercise.

I'd like to hope I fall into the category of the last picture being that I'm a bit over 70. Don't do triathlons anymore but still run/walk/swim/bike and go to the gym 3 times a week.
