Sleep Apnea and heart issues

Post by Tom price on Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:22 pm

At our Mended Hearts meeting last night, a pulmonologist discussed the new studies showing a strong relationship between sleep apnea and high BP and other issues.  The crux of it is, each time you stop breathing during sleep, your body reacts as if it us being strangled...so your HR jumps, your BP jumps, etc.  In the Syracuse area, many cardio's and pulmonologists are now working together on patients with BP issues that can't seem to be controlled...
It was an interesting discussion on something I had never heard before.

Sleep apnea contributing to heart issues is well documented. There used to be 2 heart patients on my cul de sac that have C-Pacs for night time use. One has passed away, he did not like using his, 6 years ago, he saw a cardio and a pulmonologist for his heart issues, had OHS with quad bypass. One is still here with us and he uses his C-pac every night.
