Zio - new medical tool

Post by mikenall on Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:02 pm

While it's not technically a procedure, I just wore a Zio patch for 2 weeks.  It is touted as the holter monitor of the 21st Century.  There are no leads or wires as with a holter monitor.  It looks like a large silicone band aid, has two contact points, a battery, an event button, and adheres to the skin (supposedly for up to two weeks).  It actually adhered for 5 days before my exercise routine caused it to begin loosening.  I used a fairly large amount of tape for the last 9 days.
The device is supposed to be significantly better at detecting arrhythmias.  I suspect that's because it monitors nonstop for two weeks, as opposed to two days for a holter.  I liked it because I could take a shower while wearing it.  The only limitation was no swimming.  We'll see.  I should get the results next week.

Well that Zio patch sure does sound like an improvement over the holter monitor (being who I am - not taking a shower was a problem for me when I was all holtered up) .....notice what I cared about - obviously accuracy is most important!!!

I too hope that the results you get are positive - I've been thinking of you and know you've been through a lot lately!!!
