Winter Running

Post by twal on Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:03 am

The big snow we got this week ended three weeks of the best trail running I’ve experienced in years. With a couple of inches of snow, there was just enough snow to fill in the rough spots. We didn’t have the freeze-thaw cycles that result in ice cover. There was no mud or poison ivy; there were no bears, snakes, deer ticks, horseflies, or mosquitoes.

As long as you dressed right, you could run pretty much anywhere. I prefer the scenery when the leaves are off the trees.

We usually only get a couple of days like this each winter but this time the dry cold lasted longer than usual. Now, it’s back to trying to find good footing.
