Good for you again Don. I think I'm going to call this a weight gain or maintain challenge. I keep the same or go up a little. I ran 9 on Sat, rode 15 Sunday & walked 2.5 Sunday and my weight was up one pound today. I don't think I overate Sat or Sunday, if fact missed breakfast both days which is unusual for me.

Thanks Dave and Mel - I think the key for me is counting calories - you can do it, but it takes a lot of discipline!  I've tried many time before in the last year and just wasn't committed to it enough.

I didn't lose as much this week due to carb loading I did for a 20 mile long run on Saturday -  I'm in a marathon training group and they want us to practice our eating habits before a marathon for the 20 milers so I went for the "never ending pasta" special at Olive Garden and had a huge pancake breakfast etc.

I'm at 183.2 today so down .8 lbs for the week - my least lost so far and I waited until after my morning races to weigh in or I wouldn't have been down at all. Wink
(ok, that's probably cheating but I wanted to keep the momentum going)

Good for you Don. You'll soon be transparent. LOL! I'm maintaining 166-167 which is okay. I've been doing TRX workouts at the gym three times a week and it really has me getting in physically good shape. My running still sucks but hopefully with cooler weather & less humidity and trying some new pacemaker adjustments that will change.

Thanks Mel - I'm hoping to be able to maintain a weight in the 160's like you soon!

Week 9 for me:

Sept 16 -  179.4   -  0.8 loss (Finally back into the 170's Smile )

Total for 9 weeks:   22.6 pounds lost!

This is huge - after almost a year of constant gain,  in two months (since July 15th)  I've made it back to the 170's near where I was a year ago !  Very Happy

WOW, Don!  You have done so great with your weight loss!!!!

I gave up breads, pasta, etc about 5 months ago.
Although if I go to a nice restaurant, I will still indulge....but that is not often.
The weight just dropped off for me fairly quickly.    And it stayed off.

I am now down to 120-122, which is my 'fighting weight' of yesteryear.     Unfortunately, I don't have the muscle I used to have.  But,  it is still nice to fit into those skinny jeans.   Smile

Week 10 for me:

Sept 23 -  176.0   -  3.4loss (Another largest loss since the first week Very Happy )

Total for 10 weeks:   26.0 pounds lost!  - 2.6 per week average (better than my 2.0 target)

Thanks Trish and Dave for your comments and encouragement!  Trish, I'll probably ask you more about your protein diet if this one stops working for me - sounds like you're doing great with it!  Smile

Mine is more carbs especially before a long run - I carb load 1 day before my 20 mile runs - as part of my marathon routine practice - I have my last 20 miler this Saturday.

I've had to change the way I eat over the years. Not sure if your body adapts or not....but that seems to be the case with me. It may take 10 years of the same eating before it happens...but then fairly quickly a particular "diet" will fail.
So I figure I am good with this lower carb diet now until I reach the "who cares" stage of my life. Very Happy

Week 11 for me:

Sept 30 -  175.2   -  0.8 loss
Total for 11 weeks:   26.8 pounds lost!

Happy to keep the streak alive and record another weekly loss Smile   With my Birthday last week, celebrating the birth of a granddaughter and doing a Carb load day before my Saturday 20 mile run,  even with running a 64 mile week I didn't think I'd be able to come up with a negative number.

Now with a two week taper for my Oct 12th Marathon and my traditional 3 day pre-marathon carb load -  my weight loss streak may be coming to an end soon Question

Since it's going to be October 1st tomorrow  -  Anyone want to join me for an official 3 month Weight Loss Challenge to end the year?  I'm getting close to my lowest weight of the past 30 years so my progress will probably start slowing down.

I'll be starting with my current weight of 175.2  and a goal of 160 for the end of the 3 month Challenge.

Who wants to join me????

Good for you again and good luck for the next three months. Since my running miles have decreased so much I'm happy to be able to maintain my weight were it is, that in itself is a challenge, even with the yoga, weights & some cycling. I'll try to shoot for 163 - 164. My current weight is 167.

Week 1 of the new challenge:

Oct 7 -  174.2   -  1.0 loss
Total for 1 week:   1.0 pounds lost!

It's a start, and the 12th straight week with a loss for me but I expect my weight loss streak will end since I have Marathon on Saturday. I plan to do a full 3 day Carb load plus I hope to do a little celebrating after a successful marathon Very Happy

Well done!!

You should weigh yourself immediately after the marathon and before the celebrating.
That's what I would do.   Very Happy

Good luck Sunday!

Thanks for your comments Trish, Rachale and Dave Smile

I didn't bring my scale as Trish suggested but managed not to
gain too much - I had a good first half in the Marathon - then slow a little to mile 20 and ended up walking several of the last 6 miles so I didn't do what I was hoping for but still had fun and it was a beauteful day and course with the leaves all colors.

Oct 14 - 174.8 - +0.6 gain
Total for 2 week: 0.4 pounds lost!

I'd  completely forgot about this challenge. Now that I'm (hopefully) able to start running again, I need to work on un-doing all the damage of the past six weeks. I was back up in the low 160's the last time I checked, compared to the mid 150's a month ago.

Don, I had no idea you've been doing that well. I won't recognize you the next time we meet if you keep that up!!! Congratulations.

Gary,  feel free to post your weekly results here as you get back on track with your running and weight loss.   I'm hoping to join you in the "low 160's" by the end of the year, don't think I'll make it to the 150's - at least not this year if ever Smile

In spite of running another Marathon yesterday,  I was able to record a nice loss for the week -  I did a shorter 2 day carb load this time and tried not to overdo it -  I'm delaying my post Marathon celebration treat until later today (after this morning's weigh in) when I head to Dairy Queen for a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard which is the Blizzard of the month for October - some people celebrate marathons with beer etc but my vice of choice is Dairy Queen  Very Happy

Week 3 of the new challenge:

Oct 21 - 172.2 -  2.6 loss  Very Happy
Total for 3 weeks: 3.0 pounds lost!

Week 4 of the new challenge:

Oct 28 - 169.6 -  2.6 loss  Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy   -  Into the 160's !!!!!!!!
Total for 4 weeks: 5.6 pounds lost!

With Halloween this week it will be a tough one - Meredith always buys way to much candy for the number of trick-or-treaters we get at our door so there's always many left over candy bars!!!   Wink    Hope they don't end up in my stomach this year!
