Week 2 - 141.4

Lost 0.8 for the week, 3.6 lbs total. Not much this week, but at least moved in the right direction.

Idea:  share recipes with folks for the challenge?  The hardest part of these things is changing my eating habits.

It's a vegan alternative recipe to traditional split pea soup. The Asia Mart was out of my preferred 'shrooms, so I bought a bag of "Black Fungus." Turns out they are ornamental - they give it that wonderful worm look (the vid doesn't do justice) but don't add much flavor.

Pea Soup

•2 cups dried green split peas
•1 large chopped onion
•2 teaspoons powdered garlic
•1 teaspoon powdered ginger
•1 small can tomato paste
•2 teaspoons veggie masala (can substitute garam masala if you prefer the weaponized version)
•1/4 teaspoon powdered cumin
•1/4 teaspoon black pepper
•2 chopped potatoes
•3 chopped carrots
•generous handful of dessicated mushrooms
•add water to 4 quarts total volume
•slow cook on high for 6-7 hours

Weight is a never ending challenge for me - I looked back through this thread and found I hit my lowest weight on Jan 6th 2014 with a report of 164.4  - this morning, a year later I'm back up to 189 Crying or Very sad

So my Goal is to lose 25 and get back to that 164 !!  I'll just use this thread to post my weekly progress unless others want to start a new challenge.

OK I'm in on this one. I currently weight 217. Most I've weighed since March 26, 1999. I was on track pre-holidays as I lost 3 lbs during my 2 weeks off for x-mas and new years, but got back into bad habits at work. Its just a mind game really and one I can win. My current goal is 185, so 32 lb weight loss is my challenge.

So what does the winner get besides bragging rights, a chance to tighten up the belt a few notches and a self guided hike through Gary's neighborhood?

As long as you own a bullet-proof vest you're welcome to tour my neighborhood any time (except a night). Otherwise, the only thing "off-limits" is getting inside my mind. To understand that mechanism you may need a post-doctorate in ________ (I'll let you fill in that blank)

Official weigh in
Since I started this on Jan. 2nd I'll use Friday as the official weekly date
1/2-160.0
1/9-158.0
1/16-156.4
1/23-156.4
Since there is no weight loss in the last week I'll put myself on notice here.

Tested the knee yesterday...and it told me to wait another few days, but the swelling is gone. However Embarassed , without the calories burned while running, I've ballooned to 166.3

Start: 179
Current: 175
Goal: 170

Making progress, but I wonder if I'm getting enough vitamins... and I think stomach acid might be hurting my teeth.

But, Bill, I bet your swim times are really much faster now that you sport those huge feet...although if you pin back your ears you will be much more efficient in the water.

Between an injury cutting my running and a business trip hurting my diet, this was not a good week. Gave back a little.

Start: 145.0
Wk 1: 142.2 (-2.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 2: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 3: 142.2 (+0.8 wk, -2.8 total)

Another bad week, up to 167.0. At least the gains are occurring at a slightly SLOWER pace. If the 6 to 8 inches of snow they are predicting for tomorrow somehow manages to slide north of us, I plan on testing the knee with a short run on the nearby bikepath. Once I get back to the running, I'm certain my flab will start melting away...can't wait until spring though.

Maintaining @ 214. Not what I hoped for, but I'll take it considering its Super Snack Week. The fudge I made and Vic's brownies were especially tasty.

It seems like I've been gaining and losing the same 0.8 pounds! This was a very light training week as I recovered from my 15K, but I was also pretty careful with my diet. So at least I moved back to where I was a couple weeks ago.

Start: 145.0
Wk 1: 142.2 (-2.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 2: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 3: 142.2 (+0.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 4: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)

Re: Weight Loss Challenge

Post by EugeneRunner on Sun Feb 08, 2015 8:38 pm

It was a really ugly week for me, being injured and sick at the same time. I had my lightest week of training in a long time. But somehow I did well on the weight loss front, putting my right on track or even a bit ahead on my intermediate goal of 139.0 by March 1st.

Start: 145.0
Wk 1: 142.2 (-2.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 2: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 3: 142.2 (+0.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 4: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 5: 140.2 (-1.2 wk, -4.8 total)

You guys are awesome, you're losing a pound or two a week and I'm lucky to drop a tenth of a pound each week. I tried running the past two days so maybe that will help accelerate my weight loss. If not I'm going to have to give up junk food affraid

Slow progress for me, but at least moving in the right direction. I'm finally mostly well after being sick for a couple weeks, and my injury issues has lessened a little. But the resulting increase in training didn't help at the scale.

Start: 145.0
Wk 1: 142.2 (-2.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 2: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 3: 142.2 (+0.8 wk, -2.8 total)
Wk 4: 141.4 (-0.8 wk, -3.6 total)
Wk 5: 140.2 (-1.2 wk, -4.8 total)
Wk 6: 140.0 (-0.2 wk, -5.0 total)

I started this latest version of our challenge at 160, ballooned to 167 while injured, and now am at 165.4 even though I'm slowly starting to run a bit. I'm pretty sure the only way I'll really lose weight is to have a "mouth stapling" instead of the "stomach" version.
