Yearly mileage

Post by twal on Wed Jan 01, 2014 10:48 am

This year I ran 1037 miles on 262 runs. This is my first 1000+ mile year since 2009. It was pretty good considering I started the year hobbled by plantar fasciitis and missed the last three weeks of the year due to surgery. Did a lot of racing this year at everything from a mile to half marathon.

This brings my mileage total since 1965 up to 56,960 miles (91,136 K). Maybe I can reach 100,000 K before I start pushing up daisies.

I also rode 573 miles on 37 bike rides. This gives me 15,489 miles since I started logging bike miles in 1982.

How did your year go?

Funny, 1037 was my 2012 mileage total. Only 943 this year though. My races spanned 200 meters to half-marathon. 19 races total, whereas I'd been doing to 25-30 the previous 6 years.

Nice mileage Tom and Jack. I finished the year with 1,002 miles logged during 184 runs, that averages out to 5.44 miles per run and a run every 1.98 days... Pretty close to what I think is my ideal but a little less than my target.

Interesting that we're so close in distance.

I managed 1122.25 running miles, 144 walking and 100 on the bike(8 rides). In my younger more competitive days when time was a factor I almost always ran about 2000 miles and enjoyed it more.

Well, even though our mileage is a bit lower in recent years, the amount of time we're out running may be higher. Either they lengthened the mile or it takes a lot longer to run a mile than it used to. My opinion is that global plate tectonics has made miles much farther than they were 30 yrs ago. And hills got steeper, don't get me started about hills.

Exactly my way of thinking Jack.

My total for 2013 was 2297 miles, don't know how many runs overall but an average of 4 per week I would guess.

My training tends to focus more on quality rather than just quantity, so my 'normal' week would include one easy recovery run of 7 miles, one threshold or speed work session, one steady run possibly with some tempo running, and one long run or race. Pace varies from 6 minute miles for speed down to perhaps 8:30 to 9:00 for long trails.

Russ,

Under "reports" along the top header of the website, click on the "old statistical reports" and you will find all the data from the very first time you joined. Just fill in the start and end dates that you want to search (in this case it would be 1/1/2013 to 12/31/2013) and then choose either "general" (to get minimum, maximum, and average totals) or "statistical" ( to get % of days run, streaks, etc) from the consequent drop-down options and then hit "calculate" at the bottom.

For those that have never joined logarun.com, it is a free site put together by a runner & computer guru that is funded by his cross-country teammates from DePaw University (a small liberal arts college in Indiana) who have collectively founded and now manage several running stores (Fleet Feet, Inc) in the midwest.

Most of the members of this website already are using said tool which was initially recommended by our very own Brian from Great Britain. How funny is that? I reside in a town that has such a store but find out about it online from a friend across the pond?

Ok here's my report, thanks Guru Gary ;-)

General Report for russwyd
From 01/01/2013 to 12/31/2013
Overall
Total Miles: 2297.00 Miles
Days Run: 168
Total Days: 364
Percentage: 46.15 %
Biggest Running Streak: 6 days
Current Running Streak: 1 days
Number of Runs: 168

So there you go - you don't need to run every day to reach a decent mileage total, 2297 off 168 runs. Just so long as your average run is a half marathon!

just a hint from an over-the-hill has-been

Fairly decent stats for a "part-time" runner.

Now if you were really committed to the cause, you would have been monitoring that total and figured a way to reach an even 2300.

Don't think for a minute that I hadn't considered it Gary! Since I left out my usual recovery run on Monday 30th, that would have meant extending the tough, hilly, muddy and badly flooded 16 mile XC run on New Years Eve to 19 miles, and I had to get home to sort out some stuff for the evening sadly.
