I don't have a specific race in mind yet Kevin but if my back and knee will cooperate I do want to get in marathon shape again. The last marathon I ran was in 2009. I injured my back the following Spring and it may finally be good enough to handle the training miles... We'll see.

I've also got to drop at least 13 pounds if a Fall marathon is going to be a reality.

Thanks Gary but don't turn too green... The only time I run more than you is when you're nursing an injury and I know it won't be long before I'm eating your dust once again Mad

I'm still really liking the 0 drop shoes Rachel. I'm into my 2nd week of running in them exclusively now and no issues so far. That first 10 miler in them Monday was tough but mainly because of the heat and humidity. No aches or pains but a little extra muscle tiredness. I'm not positive where that came from but could have been because the 5K I ran on Saturday started with 1 mile up hill and no warm up. My impressions so far are:

I think the impact my body takes is reduced due to improved stride mainly from getting that heel out of the way.

My running efficiency seems better from a more fluid stride.

Factors in this experiment:

I have always been a mid foot striker.

I have run in low (4 or 8 mm) drop shoes for several years.

It took more than a month to transition the rest of the way to 0 drop.

These shoes have a little cushioning. Seems just right to me.

We'll see how the next few weeks go... I haven't thrown out my old shoes yet just in case.

Post by Dave Tuttle on Mon Jun 17, 2013 6:34 am

Just got back from a week of hiking and exploring in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Leaving today with Bill C. for a few days of biking and paddling in the mountains of Pennsylvania. It's a little intimidating going biking with an Iron Man triathlete who regularly chews up 100 miles of pavement for fun. I haven't even been on my bike yet this year so I hope he'll show me a little mercy... If not, I'll fix him when we go kayaking Twisted Evil

I'll get back to my regular running schedule soon.

Nice going Dave. I did track this morning, 2x200, 1x400, 3x800. 200 & 400 times were good, 800s were acceptable but not what I would have liked (but they never are). It was about 85º and 48% humidity. Needless to say I was drenched when I finished at 6:00AM
