Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon

Post by echoguy on Mon Nov 11, 2013 7:40 pm

Hey Everybody:

Finished the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon over the weekend. Wish I had been able to train more specifically for the race as the weather turned out to be perfect for running. As it turned out, I ran a 2 minute positive split and finished in 3:32:xx. I was very happy with the result and felt as good as ever before, during and after the race.  I no longer even think about my heart during the run.  We finished the day by driving 110 miles east to hike to the high point of Georgia. Here's a few of the photos of the trip.

So that concludes my marathons for the year. Here's the final tally.

69) Lost Dutchman Real Arizona Marathon 13- 3:52:12 – Training pace. Nice trip with John Fenton.
70) ORRRC Xenia Marathon 13 – 3:57:44 – Big wind killed Don’s BQ attempt. I walked in.
71) Carmel Marathon 13 – 3:39:29 – Too close to Xenia to help Don to BQ.  We had a great training season, too bad we did not get the time we wanted.
72) Hatfield-McCoy Marathon 13 – 4:11:47 – Sneak-a-thon with Daniel Read. Paced him to sub 2 half, then slowed as a last long run for Grandma’s.
73) Grandma’s Marathon 13 – 3:24:16 – Shooting for BQ minus 5 minutes and got it. Absolutely perfect running conditions on a fast course. This may be post op PR for a while.
74) Run Woodstock 13 – 4:21:52 – Ran with Don for his 50th marathon. He and Jenni celebrated by running some of the other events including a “natural run” portion.
75) Jackson Hole Marathon 13- 3:47:25 – Followed hike up Jackson Peak and short vacation in the Tetons.
76) Gansett Marathon 13- 3:39:22 – Finished 3rd overall (out of 4) in race that stopped taking registration. Ran entire race with Garry from NC and he was a great pace partner.
77) Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon 13- 3:32:24 – Weekend with Don and Jenni. Perfect weather, but course a bit too hilly to go faster. Felt good the whole way.

That is an ambitious agenda for anyone at any age, with impressive times as well. And you did it with a rebuilt engine and 40 year old (cough) legs. Well done!

Now that's impressive!!!!

You've got quite an athletic bovine in that engine of yours!!! Looking forward to seeing you in Cinci again this year!

Thanks also for posting the photos - you run in such beautiful (and hilly) places!

I'm very impressed too. Congratulations on all the marathons and the nice times. What's on for 2014?

Very impressive year!!! Congrats on all of them. I have my recent years PR at Grandma's too - maybe next year I'll go for my BQ there! Are you running Boston in 2014?

That was an amoutstanding year. Marathons take too much out of me. The fact that you can recover and not get hurt was amazing.

Thanks for the encouraging words team. It has been a good running year. My surgery and limited time with this valve have opened my eyes to try to take advantage of the healthy times and I am trying to safely do that. My plans for next year include registrations for the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jan and Boston in April. I have hotel reservations for Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon in SD in June. Early in planning for Delaware Marathon in May, Paavo Nurmi (WI) in August, Bismark (ND) in Sept and Mt Desert Island (ME) in October. And wherever HEART is planning to go in the fall.

If you go to Mississippi, let me know. My daughter and her family are there. She won the half marathon a few years ago.

Hey Tom. We are going to Mississippi. I plan to run the full and my wife the half. We are both registered. We plan to drive and stop in Memphis on the way and the high point of Mississippi (in the northeast corner of the state) on the way home.

The high point is near Iuka in Tishamingo County. It's not much of a high point. It's one of the lowest high points in the states.

Yep. The challenge for that one is not the climb. Just getting there in the same day and finding the spot. Should be a nice drive on the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Great times throughout the year Brian, very impressive!

Look forward to getting over the pond sometime (promise!) to run with you again - unless we both make it to Comrades beforehand?
