I am going to try running again

Post by RoadKillBill on Tue Nov 05, 2013 12:53 pm

I have really not run much the last couple of years, but have decided to try it again. Hoping that if I publicly commit then I'll stick with it. I have modified a Hal Higdon beginner half marathon plan to keep me busy between now and the Heart Mini 15 K, and then prepare me for the Ann Arbor half in June (watched my daughter do it last year and I got envious). I am in my third week of the plan, so it's starting to become routine. Once I have a significant investment in the training plan, I'll be loathe to quit. Too bad about diminishing daylight and the onset of black ice season, but there's always the dreadmill. Wish me luck!

Good luck. Get in as many miles as you can before things freeze up.

Good luck Bill and you can do it. Having a goal and letting others know go a long way in keeping on track.

That's great Bill!!!!

I can't remember if A2 is as flat as GR......if it is you should set that TM on an incline every once and a while.....more prep for Cinci

Hopefully we'll have a mild winter this year and you can keep it outside!

That sounds like good motivation to get through the Winter Bill and now that you've put it up here on the forum you gotta stick to it.

The Heart Mini is going to help keep me motivated and knocking out the longer runs during the Winter too.

Hmmm, I think we might need to bring the "Young Gun" or "Seven and a third Minute Marc" to Cinci for this throw down Razz

I am sticking with my running plan, despite having to use the dreadmill. I should be ready for Cinci, but I need to find a replacement for my half marathon. The Ann Arbor marathon has been moved from early June to March. The half course is beautiful in June, including tree-lined streets, municipal parks, the arboretum, river and ponds and college campus. In March it will just be gray and cold and muddy and gross. March is probably the ugliest month of the year in Ann Arbor :-(. There are other options, I just need to pick one to keep my momentum going.

MARCH??!?! Seriously - what are they thinking?!?!?!? That is the absolute worst month of the year for the entire state - any kind of weather can happen then!!!

You could do the Solstice Half up in Glen Arbor - I've never done it but it's beautiful up there and the course follows Glen lake near the Sleeping Bear. There's always Bayshore late May (for the future - it's already filled for 2014) - but that's a great event up in Traverse.

Glad to hear that you're still on schedule - TM and all!!!!

Martha and I are heading for the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon in South Dakota on June 1. I am running the full. She may be running the half if all goes well in a few weeks in Mississippi. It sounds like a fun run.

You're doing better than I am if you're sticking to your running plan Bill and March IS a bad time for a major race (Cinci is the exception of course). Why not plan on running the half in Grand Rapids?
