Why Another Heart Forum?

Post by Admin on Sun Apr 14, 2013 4:34 pm

We've all made some very special friends at our gatherings over the last eight years and many of us try to stay in touch throughout the year as well. Whether it's just to say hello or to support one of our own who is facing a setback, this group seems to always be there for each other and we think that is one of the best things to come out of our yearly events.

H.E.A.R.T. is pretty unique in that it brings together people who are conquering their heart issues every day as well as those who are just beginning their journey by providing everyone an opportunity to meet in person, run together, and share support. From the feedback we receive about our gatherings it's a priceless combination that is hugely empowering and uplifting. Now that our community has grown from an informal group of valve replacement runners to a non profit corporation organizing weekend long events with nearly 50 attendees and receiving support from the Cleveland Clinic, we realize that a better method of staying connected is needed. Several of you have suggested that H.E.A.R.T. should have a forum of its own... We like that idea and think the time is right.

This forum will be a central place for everyone to get the latest information on our next event and it will also be a place to continue the friendships we've made at previous races. The forum will also allow us to reach out to more of the people who need to hear our message the most... We've always felt that H.E.A.R.T.'s most important role is to provide hope and support through example to heart patients who are new to all this, to those who may have recently had an event or surgery and want to take back their lives but have the same fears we all once had... We think it's worth a try. We think the need is there and we know we have most supportive group of friends there ever was. The only requirement to join is to have a strong desire to make the most of your particular heart issue and a willingness to support others who want to do the same...

After much discussion we decided to launch this forum. It's not fancy but it doesn't cost us anything either. We hope you will all join one more forum now where you'll be able to stay in touch with all your "HEART Buddies" and perhaps even get an opportunity to pay forward that gift we've all been blessed with by supporting others as they find out what they CAN do after a heart event, illness, or surgery... We're not trying to compete with any of the other heart forums in any way, they each provide their own wonderful service. We just recognize that what H.E.AR.T. does is different and unique and it needs to grow on its own. Our forum and our gatherings will always welcome participants and members from all heart support websites as well as through referrals from hospitals, cardiac rehab programs, and heart advocacy organizations.
