H.E.A.R.T. News

Post by Dave Tuttle on Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:48 pm

We're very excited about two big news items involving  H.E.A.R.T. that have developed recently and we want to share them with all of you.

First, the Cleveland Clinic has included a link to our new forum on their web site's heart patient education resource guide under support groups... Aside from the fact that the Cleveland Clinic is the nation's number one heart hospital this may not seem like a very big deal until you see who the other 17 organizations we share this space with are... It's literally a who's who of the  nation's top heart advocacy groups! We are both humbled and honored to be included there and we're also very excited that the new link will enable us to reach so many more heart patients returning to an active life who need our message.

In addition to all the members of our forum who make it such a truly special support resource for heart patient athletes, Mike Nall deserves a lot of credit for his continuing efforts over the last several years building our relationship and our credibility with the Cleveland Clinic. This is indeed a big opportunity for H.E.A.R.T.

The other important news is that today our new forum reached one thousand posts... Pretty good for a forum that is only 5 months old. Thank you all for being part of it! You are what makes this forum such a great place.

That is wonderful!  I noted their disclaimer at the bottom of the listing:

"Warning about Online Posting Boards/Chat Rooms»

The Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic is not responsible for the content or the performance of these sites. These sites may contain online chats or posting boards that provide an opportunity for users with a common interest or health care issue to communicate and offer support. Statements are opinion only and are not considered medically accurate. When posting medical information about you, please note that it is not a private forum. All information you post will be read by others.

Use these sites at your own risk including any risks associated with destructive viruses. Please remember that medical information, in the absence of a visit with a health care professional, must be considered of an educational or supportive nature only. It should not be relied upon as a medical consultation and is not designed to replace a physician's independent judgment about the appropriateness or risks of a procedure for a given patient. "

I am glad that they contemplated what we are and what we are not, and decided that communities like ours play a valuable role in the well-being of heart patients.  They could have considered each of the points in their warning statement and concluded that they wanted no involvement with us whatsoever.  Kudos to Mike and Dave for promoting our value.  All of that stuff in the CYA statement notwithstanding, we have the ability to support and encourage each other in a way that organized medicine cannot.  It's great to see a leader like the CC acknowledge that, and allow us to be who and what we are.  I hope our relationship continues to develop!

FYI Bill,
They have also offered advice as to how we might answer questions that have come in to the email and cover ourselves as well.
