GR Bridge Run

Post by Rachel August on Sun Sep 15, 2013 5:29 pm

Okay so I’ve FINALLY broke that 10 mile “mind barrier” and ran the 10 mile bridge run this morning!!!!

Of course I had TONS of help from Marc – cool guy – very fun to run with – he knows I’ve been struggling so he sort of coached me from a distance for a couple of weeks - and because this run involved bridges - it was just enticing enough for him to come into town and run with me.

And yes – I PR’ed – ran 10 in 1:31:35 (but I’m not sure the course was exactly 10 – could have been more like 9.88 – so my pace was either 9:00 or 9:16 depending on actual distance) – I don’t really care – what was FAR more important was the fact the I felt great at this pace and for once in two years from my surgery, I did not feel “different” – that was priceless to me. BTW – can’t say enough about Marc – he most definitely helped me get over my mental block and in the process, inspired me to run in my local half which is coming up in a few weeks.

Afterwards, my husband and I got together with Marc and his wife for lunch – we had a great time - what a nice couple!!! Had lots of fun talking about all kinds of things…including that majorly steep incline (right Marc? LOL) at the end of the race when I fell behind a bit…. And yes - Marc waited for me to catch up!

Great fun!!!

Congratulations. You'll be the fastest one on the relay team at this rate.

GR Bridge Run

Post by Marc Thayer on Mon Sep 16, 2013 6:24 pm

Ms Rachel did very well....any like any 'coach' I think her best days are yet to come...but we might have to re-program the assessment of what a hill is.

My Garmin had the run at 9.9...and it tends to measure long...so If you want to PR at "10" miles this is the race for you!

Well done Rachel and to Marc for being such a great support - what we're all about round here. Only wish I could get across the pond to help out myself - hoping to make that happen sometime in the next year or so.

I replied earlier but it seems to be missing here... I'm definitely up for Iceland in August 2014 and there is a 10km, a half marathon and a full marathon if anyone is interested. I'm running the Malta Marathon next February, and I'm next due in the US around Easter 2015, though if I get any chance to get ver next year I will.

When will the HEART group get together next year - October again?

Iceland sounds real interesting Russ... Not sure it's in my budget but Diane wants to travel so who knows?

We usually find a race between September and late November but that isn't written in stone. A lot depends on if we have someone local to help put it together. Well start looking for the next race as soon as Syracuse is over.

Budget smudget....Three events on the schedule at the Midnite run...half/10K/5K...June 23, 2014
I know the 'go long or go home' crowd will likely be less than enthusiastic about such an event...but I have certain 'political' concerns to address (the lovely Ms.L doesn't cotton up to much more than 5K..bless her aching knees).
