NY & VT Bike Ride

Post by RoadKillBill on Sun Sep 08, 2013 9:54 pm

My wife and I did a 4 day joy ride through the Adirondacks and Green Mountains after spending Labor Day weekend in Lake Placid.  We rode through the Adirondacks High Peaks Region, the Middlebury Gap (an OMG-class mountain route), the Mad River Valley, Montpelier and Burlington.  The rain that was forecasted never materialized while we were riding.  Great luck, great scenery, great trip.

Our originally planned route was a bit more ambitious, but we contemplated our fitness (not bad, not great) and decided to dial back a bit in favor of some leisure time in Burlington -- that was a good decision.

We are already looking forward to the next bike tour.

WOW! You guys rock! If my husband and I tried to do that, we'd probably still be there with almost no chance of making it to Syracuse by 10/20!!!

I've been to Burlington, good choice to stop for some leisure time there!

Oh man, that scenery looks familiar. I did an oil painting just a few weeks ago of some misc. stream near Lake Placid. I don't know exactly where this was but I'm betting you went by it.  Adirondack stream

Nice painting! Jack, the middle picture above could be that stream from a different angle ;-). There are SO many pretty views of streams and ponds in that area.  Even the roadside drainage ditches are spectacular. I love that region.

Bill,
It looks like you didn't go far enough north to get to the Ben & Jerry's factory. With all the calories you must have burned you deserved the treat.

That looks like a really great (and tough) ride Bill, nice!!!

I think all the rain that was forecast for last week got dumped on us this week. We left the Adirondacks yesterday... Nothing but rain up there.

Did you look up Paul in Burlington?

Should I be embarrassed to admit our palates prefer Stewart's ice cream to B&J?  We ate plenty while on the west side of the lake.  Nobody ever mistook me for a gourmet.

Dave sorry to hear about the washout.  I have had that misfortune on other trips.

We did not connect with Paul. :-(

Great pictures! That last one looks like part of the IM Lake Placid course. Good memories. Awesome trip by you and your wife! Jealous.

Dave, I did some consulting work for Bill and we edited the course some. Mostly avoiding the Grand Islands. They look good on paper, but mostly the ride is a wide state highway.

Bill hit some great roads though!

Maybe we should organize a small biking weekend and see who shows up??

Paul, did Ethan the "Young Gun" see the great pictures of him on the race photographer's web site?

I didn't show him, but I will.

I think i group ride would be great!  2 or 3 days on the bikes.  We could work a sag-car by taking turns for portions of the ride.

Paul
