It looks like I'm doomed, but others are doing really well

Post by Gary E on Wed Jan 07, 2015 7:37 am

Today I'm in 15th place on the push-up board. I usually try to gut out 20 each morning, but just within the past two weeks Sumo has compiled 445 and will undoubtedly pass me in a flash. pale

The weekly 50+ y.o. leaderboard for running shows our two superstars: 1st is Don (72.6) and in 2nd is Russ with 57.0.
In the 40 -49 age group, our Eugene ace sits in second with 67 miles for the last seven days.

My little lady holds the lead in four categories, and I'm hanging on to first with the month's swimming totals with 34.1 miles.

Gary, Thanks for the "superstar" label Smile That may be the first time someone's called me that (unless you did in another LogArun post) - I'm lucky to come in the top half of my age group in most races but at least I can do more miles than most of us old folks. That being said I don't plan on having any 70+ mile training weeks so I expect that number will be a little lower by Saturday (Sunday on LogARun) when my real training week ends.

I've begun my assault on the pushups board. Just crept onto the list a couple days ago and am now jumping 2 or 3 places each day, Three weeks into the routine I'm doing 80 a day. I should be at 100 next week. After that I have to increase more slowly or risk fatigue. I've been doing squats too but there's no board for that. Just 40 a day so far but unlike the pushups those hurt.

found an oddity today in the age-group standings

Post by Gary E on Wed Jun 17, 2015 10:53 pm

How often does this happen?  Although these teammates (as well as T Wall just a few rungs down) are regularly in the age group standings (especially Don and Russ who are usually at or near the top), I found it rather odd that we are bunched in consecutive slots on this particular day.

10. DonMan (28.2)
11. Brutus (24.6)
12. Tutt (24.0)
13. russwyd (22.0)
14. Klemp (21.5)

Looks like a lot of great running going on with HEART. I'm impressed at the mileage, Gary had a fantastic week this week. Very Happy

A bit of compulsivity?

Post by Gary E on Sat Jul 11, 2015 12:17 pm

Thanks for the note on the LogARun site as well as the mention here, Louise. I notice that you are always in the top ten of your age group.

I'm trying to slowly add a little distance each week. I labored this morning because of the heat, and when I got home and logged the mileage, I found that I'm 0.29 miles behind last week. Now I'm going to have to run at least a mile or two this evening just to keep that 10-week streak intact.

so close, but foiled again

Post by Gary E on Sun Jul 12, 2015 1:10 am

It had nothing to do with Tom's remark in the previous comment, but I ended up going to a picnic in the late afternoon (where there were items that one doesn't find at the fast-food establishments that I frequent). I may have had a few too many deserts (my big weakness) too, and ended up taking a nap when I got home. Can anyone say "comatose"?

Needless to say, I'm now wide awake at 1:10 in the AM and writing to all of you because I can't go back to sleep. And yes, I didn't wake up in time to get that last 3 tenths of a mile I needed to keep my string in tact.

way to go, team

Post by Gary E on Wed Sep 30, 2015 7:56 am

Sorry that I haven't been checking in here regularly, but today when I logged in to the logarun site to enter my swim data, I noticed a rare occurrence. There are seven of our members in the top 20 for weekly running mileage, and five of them are in consecutive order.

10. Brutus (25.Cool
11. Klemp (24.1)
12. Tom Walski (23.7)
13. russwyd (23.0)
14. Tutt (23.0)

with DonMan in 4th with 37.8 and SumoRunner in 23rd with 6.5

Just thought it kind of unusual to see the consecutive rankings, but specially proud to see so many of us on the leaderboard of such a world-wide resource for recording workouts.

I should be right in the middle of that group. Before this latest injury, 3 wks ago, I was at 24. But, check me out on the swim and pushups boards.

I'm only running a couple miles every other day now and my fitness ctr closed the pool for 2 wks for it's annual cleaning, so all I have going on now is my push ups routine.

The ages of the top five in the push ups leaderboard are 28/18/67/19/19. Those teenagers are all high school XC runners, so I can see them slacking off in a couple weeks. That gives me only one competitor and I'll need to be at the top of my game to catch him.

Discouraging find

Post by Gary E on Mon Nov 09, 2015 10:17 am

After leading the yearly board in swimming for the past five or six months, I was aware that a youngster was slowly catching up.  His "30-day" totals for the past few months have been ten to fifteen miles better than mine, so I figured he'd overtake me by spring on the "yearly" totals also.

WRONG!!! Someone else must have spent an entire weekend logging every one of his swims for the past year...and now leads both categories (monthly & yearly) with a whopping 145 mile lead on me.

Today I noticed that Jack did achieve his goal !!!! He's sitting atop the leaderboard for pushups with 3730 in the last 30 days.  Congrats from someone floundering in 7th place in that category. Anyone else care to join us?

This was before I even entered today's 170 (easy day). I had done 210 yesterday morning, then I went to out run a Veterans Day 5K. As I got 5 yds from the finish line, manned by a national guard unit, I dropped down and did 20 push ups. Naturally I added that to the day's total.

I'm also way down in my running mileage due to a neuroma in my foot.  I'm going to try a few weeks of complete rest (from running)...and what better time than the holidays to bulk up (by eating heartily, not lifting weights) Sad

I'm still running every other day because something, somewhere hurts after every run, but it's all getting better slowly. I have a 3.5 mi Turkey Trot Thursday, so I didn't run or do any push-ups Wednesday, just swam a mile which is the least stressful of the three.
