I bet you and Russ are the only ones on that "Senior" leaderboard that are capable of running such mileage. That fact is even more spectacular when you consider the majority of the others have "healthy" hearts.

I'm proud of the eight cardiac teammates that are highlighted also. I think someone in the "cardiovascular medicine" realm should pay attention to such outstanding accomplishments.

Brilliant week Don, you put me to shame.

Mind you, I was away for a few days in Malta and didn't get to log my miles until I got back, so I should have been at least a little further up the tree (AND second Cardiac Athlete ;-) )

Malta went well - I took the task on to pace a 3:30 target group, said I'd take them to 20 miles in 2:38 and they were on their own from there. One guy went ahead at around 16 miles and finished in 3:22 and a couple fell back a little to finish in 3:30, 3:32 and 3:36, while I ran in steady in 3:26. In the past 12 weeks I've run a 100 mile trail race, a trail marathon, a 44 and a 46 mile trail ultra and a road marathon, plus averaged between 50-60 miles per week without tapering. Now it'll be more of a 'rest' month...!

Maybe someday I'll give 100 mile day a try?  Shocked

You've certainly got the tenacity to give it a good go Don  Very Happy

I've not yet tried a 24 hour race to see how far I can get in a day, though a few of my fellow runners have done them. I ran 100 miles in just over eighteen and a half hours last November, mostly on difficult and hilly trails in the dark, and I think I could run well under 18 hours in more favourable conditions. So, given another six hours, maybe I could get another 25 miles down the road I guess? I've got a couple of long races set up this year, so I guess I'll be finding out more then as they will both go well beyond 24 hours.

Don and Russ sit atop the running leaderboards for the over-50 category today. I've finally gotten above 30 miles/week and place a distant 8th. We also have three others (Tutt, W-ski, Klemp, OldStarter) in the top 25.

Louise and Rachel rank 5th and 7th in their age group, Jack and I are in the top five for push-ups and sit-ups in categories where there is no age-grouping, and I currently hold the runner-up spot in swimming with 307.5 miles for the past 365 days.

I hope I didn't leave anybody out, but I encourage any of you that would like to use this free website (which is fabulous for recording everything from personal records, to weight gain or loss, and even things like consecutive days run, or mileage for particular time periods). It is really an amazing repository that you can store all kinds of data for future use.

Check it out at www.logarun.com and join our team listed as CardiacAthletes.

I've been totally neglecting my workouts this past week due to a nasty cold or you might also see me on that list way up around 6 or 8 miles.

Excellent well done Don, let's hope you've put the injury problems behind you. I'm sure you'll be ahead of me for a few weeks now as I taper to Spartathlon - and if I manage to finish there, I can't see anyone being ahead of me on the Leaderboard that week! Very Happy

Nice work Don!!! Glad you're fully recovered and out on the road again.

And congratulations to the rest of the gang too!

Now if we can just get Gary and myself healed and back where we belong on the leaderboards before Harrisburg and the Columbus Marathon...

haven't updated this in awhile

Post by Gary E on Fri Dec 12, 2014 11:31 pm

The past two days saw both Don and Russ atop the age-group leaderboards. Today, Don inched ahead with 53.2 mile for the last seven days, while Russ totaled 52.0 (the duo were reversed yesterday, I believe).

My wife is first in her age/group, Rachel 5th in hers, DreamCrusher and EugeneRunner (am I allowed to use their first names here?) are 5th & 8th in their category. While Klemp, Tutt, and I are all above the #20 rung of the 50+ age-groupers.

Didn't notice Louise, but maybe the weather down in the LoneStar state got a bit chilly for her. (that should get a response from the little lady - hope she's not sick or anything).

I'm sorry if I missed anyone, but if any of you aren't logging your mileage there (it's a free site...and darned good, I might add) please check out www.logarun.com.

I saw that Tom and Brad were on the leaderboards too... Gary was on them in 6 different categories, Linda 5, Klemp, Russ, and I were on 2... Pretty darn good indeed especially for a bunch of people with heart issues! Too bad they don't have a category for groups with the most members on the leaderboards.

I'm in a phase of training to build back from some fatigue issues following Spartathlon, and I'm working with a new coach. So less mileage at the moment, around 40-45 miles per week only, and more intervals and LT running. Seems to be working ok, and I ran a 3:32 marathon as a training run in Norway last week, got another trail marathon coming up next weekend. I think my weekly mileage will climb again in the New Year, with some big miles anticipated in March/April leading towards another go at the Grand Union Canal Race 145 miler in May.

It's about time I wrote an update on my Heart Forum thread, will get to it ASAP.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Gary thanks for reporting on the Leaderboards Smile - I've haven't been posting much here lately - but I'm hoping to get in a year end summary and maybe even start reporting in on the Weight loss challenge thread.

Right now I'm doing about 45 mile weeks - hoping to start doing 50 mile weeks soon as I build to 60 mile weeks leading up to my next Marathon in May.  I'm planning to not go much over 60 miles because I think thats the most I've been able to do without getting into injury trouble but I still think I need about a 60 mile week average to run a decent marathon.  Russ and I had almost a week at the top of our Leaderboard with our 45 miles weeks - today we're back in the #2 & 3 positions since someone else jumped up with a 50+ week.  I'll probably drop a little more since I slept in today and missed my morning run.

Good to see Russ is still doing 3:32 training marathons!! I can't do that pace in a 5K race Crying or Very sad

I haven't bothered with it in many months. Got triceps tendonitis from a swim race last August and it still hurts, but I did manage to do 10 pushups on it this morning. Once I get healed, I'll start logging again. It usually takes about 2 months to climb back up the leader board again. Running-wise, I'm at 20 miles a week now, but know the next couple months will be lower.

I've managed to temporarily sneak to the top of the 40-49 age group, along with Don at the top of the 50+ group. I'm not expecting to be there for long, as people are probably just either training light over the holidays or missing posting workouts. But I plan on ramping up to 80+ mpw in the spring in preparation for a half marathon, so I might be up there of the leader boards more often then.

It is almost time for the end of year summaries from all of you

Post by Gary E on Sun Dec 28, 2014 1:09 pm

I see where our ace from Eugene is back atop the 40-49 leaderboards with a 64 mile week.

In the 50+ standings, Mr Minnesota leads with 53.7 mpw, while our international stud is in third with a mere 47 miles.

Also of note: Our farmer from Eastern NY appears on the 30 day bike board in 19th place, I am currently leading the 30 day swimming category with 33 miles, and my wife is first in five categories as well as a 15th place out of all females in the past week.

If you haven't joined our team on www.logarun.com, please consider doing so. It is a free site that tabulates all sorts of rankings (by age groups or overall) as well as providing tools for you to make various charts, graphs, or even historical data on your performances from whatever time period you select to investigate. You can even keep track of your weight or the mileage on each pair of running shoes.

I started logging my workouts again today. Started out very conservatively, just 4x15 pushups and 3 miles run, so it may take a while to show up on any leader board.

today's leaderboard on logarun.com

Post by Gary E on Sun Jan 04, 2015 9:32 am

Another banner day on the leaderboards for our team. In the 50+ age-group for running. Don is in first with 57.5 miles, Russ is second with 53.0, TomW is sixth at 25.7, BobK is 10th registering 20.2, Tutt is 11th with 20.0, I'm trying to stay afloat with 15.5 for 18th place, while Sumo is not only rapidly climbing up the pushup leaderboard...but he is also 21st in running with 14.6 miles.

In the next youngest grouping (40 to 49 y.o.), Eugene Runner is 2nd with 57.0 miles. Our injured Rachel is pretending that she's still 100% by logging 15.3 miles for sixth place in her A/G, and my wife leads her's (and all of us for that matter) with 64 miles.

HAHA - and that would be different from any other day???? I'm always pretending - and sometimes I fool even myself (but that's when I get into trouble)

Anyway - yes I'm injured - and yes I'm logging my walking/slogging sessions as if I were running those miles - but no I don't follow the leader board....I'm just trying to get into the game! Maybe someday that'll actually happen!

Congrats to those actually running!!!!
