Russ - Tapering!!!! HaHa - my idea of that concept is well....a little different than yours!!! Then again I only run 20 miles a week....not 20 or more a day!

Have fun on your marathon this weekend and in all the other events you've got scheduled for this year!

I stopped doing my pushups May 23 when I started swimming and did none at all until January. That's 7+ months off, so since I can't do as much running in the winter, I started them again two weeks ago and I'm up to 80 a day now. After only 15 days, I stepped into this list at #13. Let's see how long it takes to regain #1.

Pushups (Male) who have done the most repetitions the last 30 days

Brian Green (3490)
Ries (3480)
Will Run (2370)
BLutz (2000)
Michael Nance (1575)
Peter Militzer (1450)
Mark Greene (885)
Running Teacher (800)
Wilbur (756)
Chris Garrity (750)
Coach H (750)
Stephen Thomas (750)
SumoRunner (609)
Eric (585)
ptrich (550)
OTrunner (530)
Josh Ordway, MD (525)
Rudy (510)
heath miner (440)
AKoksal (425)
Swinsei (315)
Samuel Lee (260)
Brutus (230)
Scott Hansen (220)
Andrew (200)

Those are impressive pushup numbers! I've started logging my running again after a year off. Already climbing the 40-49 ranks.

Not yet. That's just the start. I have a long history of pushup madness. Peaked at over 4,000 a month last year. I don't run high mileage though, roughly 1,000 miles a year for 35-40 yrs.

Lady Brutus is AMAZING of course - (and a very lovely person I might add) - she is always at the top of her age group and would be tied for the second spot in my age group (someone who runs about 80-90 miles per week is the top in my age group - she's 44 and pretty amazing herself)

But - after the number one and number two spots there is a significant mileage gap for the rest of "my group" so......I'm usually listed but probably shouldn't be.....

One month is all it took this time to move into 3rd place on the pushups list with just 2300. I'm now at 170/day and heading to 200 in a week or so.

still somewhat competitive...but only in obscure "age group" realms.

Post by Gary E on Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:29 pm

Alright, I'll admit that it would take a huge amount of steroids (or perhaps the incentive of some free donuts) to even get me to hit thirty consecutive pushups...but a few days ago I did reach the 300 mile mark (in yearly totals) on the leaderboard for swimming.  In fact, if it weren't for any "leaderboard" competition, I wouldn't be headed out the door in a few minutes to hit the gym for some dreaded treadmill time because we got slammed with 8 inches of snow last night.

Think body type. I'm built to be a plow horse, not a thoroughbred. You lean and lanky types can run fast but I can plow 40 acres without straining.

Gary, as competitive as you claim to be I just can't imagine how you let me run 2 one-hundredths (yep .02) of a mile more than you last week... Hell, I saw you run farther than that chasing a penny you dropped  jocolor

setting the record straight

Post by Gary E on Sun Feb 16, 2014 3:18 am

Regarding the previous posting, I've had to adjust my priorities this past week. I was in position to move into second place in the swimming leaderboards (should do so with this morning's mile effort), but once that objective is reached, you are once again on my radar Mr Tuttle - especially now that you've motivated me even further with that last comment (which, by the way, was a total falsehood...it was a nickle!!!)

Very impressive Don!!! Not only for the fact that you live in a rather inhospitable region to accumulate such mileage at this time of year, but also because some of those folks are more than fifteen years younger than you.

I'm also very proud of the fact that we have so many members of our team on a website of that magnatude.

That's a lot of pounding. I've never hit mileage like that. I think maybe I got to 50 once back in the 80s and came up just short of 40 a couple weeks last fall. Y'all can see where I'm at this week though.

Congratulations Jack,  you amaze me  Very Happy   -  About the only strength training I'm getting in this winter is snow shoveling - our next storm is set to start in 2 hrs with 10 - 12+ inches of wet heavy stuff expected.  Guess I'm lucky my snow blower died a couple of years ago or I'd get no cross training  Smile
