Cheers Don, but I am some way behind you still. I added in a 'short' ultra last week (33 miles around Salisbury Plain tank ranges at the Imber Ultra) as my steady long run, first long run back from Rocky Raccoon 4 weeks ago. Made it to 20 miles before the legs really started complaining, so had to take a few walk/jog breaks between 22-28 miles but managed to pick up and run strong to the finish. Got 2nd in age group, not bad for a training run. Will be getting back into 'build' mileage over the next month, got GUCR (145.4 miles) at the end of May.

I stopped updating mine months ago. It was a bother doing double entries since I keep my own spreadsheets. I had my highest run mileage since last Xmas with 10 total this week. I'm still only running 3 days a week, but also swimming 3 days. Still doing the pushups too. Today 220 pushups, run 4.2 mi, swim 1500 yd. I bought a bike for myself for Xmas too but it's been too cold to ride so far.

Jack, I wish you would keep updating us on the LogARun site, especially since you are now getting a lot of swimming in.  And your pushup totals would blow everybody else out of the water (just as you did when you were recording everything there).

As for Russ and Don, you guys have both had long strings atop the running leaderboard for our age division.  I was following your efforts, but not doing much running on my own.  I hope to change that in the spring.

I've been so busy with my parttime job (which is more than full time at this time of year) that I haven't had a chance to check in here in at least three weeks.  Once the State Championships, political rallies and our NIT basketball games end, I may have a bit more time to connect with all of you.

The masters swim class I'm taking on Thursday nights (1500-2000 yards of intervals) is taking a lot out of me. Four weeks into it and I've had to reduce the pushups due to soreness in the arms. It lingers all week. So I cut back to only 4 sets of 25 pushups in the morning. I did run 5 miles today, meaning it hasn't weakened the legs. The class runs 10 weeks and I'll do a time trial at the end to see if things progressed. My stroke mechanics have improved but the speed, not so much.

I still think this site is motivating, and hope to see more of you   recording your mileage (laps, reps, etc) again.  There was a time when our "C.A." group really dominated the older leaderboards.  If you have private email addresses for some of our members, please give them a shout-out.  I'll try and do the same when time permits.

Just noticed that we still have six members in the top fifteen of the 50+ leaderboards on LogARun.  Way to go guys.  Also, I noticed that Twal posted that he had started running again a few days ago, and already he's up to 18.7 miles.  Maybe I'm going to have to look into that surgery thing Smile

The LogARun site's "leaderboard" function was down for a week, but now that it is up and running again I see that two of our members sit atop the leaderboard for 50+ males with 60 and 43.4 miles for the last seven days.

russwyd (60.0)
DonMan (43.4)

I reside in 9th place, a mere 3/10th of a mile ahead of Twal (24.3 vs 24.0) and Klemp is hanging in there in 13th place with 15 miles for the last seven days.

Keep up the great work everybody!

It's been a long time since I used it since my running dropped to zero last year. But I can see I would still easily jump into the top 3 on the pushups leader board and top 10 on the swimmers 30 day list.

I just boosted my swimming to prep for the US Masters one hour postal swim in January. I want to see if I can do 2500 yds by then.

anyone else in a rut when the seasons change?

Post by Gary E on Fri Dec 23, 2016 1:18 pm

For decades, I've been averaging 4 to 5 miles of running on each of six days a week in addition to a daily swim. (I take a day off of that routine every Wednesdays when I do a rigorous hike with a group of friends), but the last few weeks I've been totally off schedule. Often now, I have to choose between either running or swimming on days when I have a work commitment, and I always used to prefer the running.  I never thought I would see the day when running wasn't my favorite pastime, but the pressure to stay near the top of the swimming leaderboards must take precedence...because that's what is happening lately.  Some of it may be due to the fact that we've had an early (and quite bitter) winter, which means I have to drive to the fitness club to jump on a treadmill, instead of just running out the door of the house.  Sigh

I hear you. Winter weather in the north tests all of us. When I was racing a lot, I had races to motivate me.

For the last few months, I haven't been racing because of my heart issues. But I still get out the door because I hate tread mills and I don't have ready access to a pool (and I'd probably drown anyway).

Hang in there Gary.

I haven't logged anything in a long time, so today I put in the past month's workouts. I immediately jumped to #2 in pushups and #8 in swimming, but barely made the 50+ run list. I'm walking these days, but entered the miles as runs for old time sake.

Thanks a lot Jack Sad  Having you back on the leaderboard means that I'm going to have to up my performance substantially.  I know you are capable of more one arm push-ups than I can with both arms. How long do you think it will take you to surpass the guy in 1st?

Speaking of "firsts"- Russ is back atop the 50+ yr olds with 75 miles, while we have five members between eighth and fourteenth.

Shhh! I don't want him to hear me sneaking up behind. He's just a kid of 21 and I'm not so young any more. I've been doing 200 every other day. All I'd need to do is throw in a short set of 100 on the off days.

I love LogARun! I appeared on the leaderboards for having run 298 miles in the last 30 days. It hadn't really occurred to me that my last month had been that good. Just 2 miles short of averaging 10 miles a day, which would be a huge milestone.

Our CardiacAthlete members are doing well on the LogARun leaderboards in the "over 50" category for weekly running totals.  Russ is leading the pack, while five others are currently listed.

However, I don't see Dave, and I'm still on restrictions (no running or swimming for two more weeks) due to a misunderstanding with technician while my EP is on vacation.

I'll be moving to the over 50 in April, but for now I'm holding my own on the 40-49 leaderboards. I don't see any other CA's in there.

I think the "Most miles in the last 30 days" list is actually for 31 days, but I still can't seem to get the numbers to add up right.

The site uses GMT so your daily data isn't included in the data-base until the middle of the night here in the USA.  An example would be, when I search my data for my yearly totals, I must input 1/1/2015 to 1/1/2016 (not 12/31/2015) in order to get the 365 day totals.

I pulled up an example for one month, and by not including the extra day, you will notice that it only gives you 30 days of data, even though you put in all 31 days that month (from 01/01/2016 to 01/31/2016)
Overall

After a two and a half week hiatus because of some discomfort with my new pacemaker, I've finally gotten on the over 50 leaderboard.  Today we have seven members in the top 20 for that age group, as well as Eugene Runner's top spot in the next youngest age-group.  Too bad they don't have a category for just the "over 70" guys, or I would be much higher as of yesterday.

Re: LogARun Leaderboard

Post by Gary E on Sat Feb 04, 2017 11:40 am

She only started running a year or so prior to our meeting at the Boston Marathon, so I figure that she has somewhere around 80,000 miles.  She won the women's division in her very first race (a 10k), and then her second race was the Athens (OH) Marathon which she ran with the legendary Sy Mah.  He taught her everything she ever needed to succeed at that distance (which is the only distance she races anymore) and he was a dear friend of ours until his death in '88.

The exception to that "marathon only" racing was her being talked into running a leg of the Baltimore Marathon as part of our CardiacAthlete's relay team a few years back. She's still angry about that, because the Columbus Marathon was a week later and she had her worst time ever in that event...and blames me for allowing her to run a hilly portion of that Baltimore race.

That is not the only thing she blames me for...but the list is too long for this site Sad

Russ is atop the 50+ leaderboard again with 70 miles for the last 7 days. Five more of us round out the bottom half of that ranking.  I can't wait until April when our Eugene bullet turns fifty to see Russ and him rotate in and out of the top spot.

I've been slacking off the pushups this month, doing only 3 days a week. Been raising the intensity of the swims in preparation for the local masters championships March 5. I got into a masters swim group with coaching at the YMCA. I had been been taking occasional private swim clinics for $25 a pop, but at the Y it's only $15 a month above the regular dues, 2 days a week, and guess what. It was the same coach.
